Make the world your playground with the EOS 400D. 10.1 Megapixels of superior CMOS resolution and Canon's Integrated Cleaning System deliver the EOS hallmark of crisp, clean images, shot after shot.
Quality
The EOS 400D's 10.1 Megapixel sensor employs the same outstanding CMOS image quality advantage of its big brothers in the professional EOS 1 range. Super sensitive in low light and virtually noise free, CMOS is also fast and power efficient.
EOS Integrated Cleaning System
For consistently pristine results, a complete dust prevention and cleaning system works to keep the EOS 400D's sensor spotless. A combination of technologies reduces, repels and removes dust and includes a Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit that shakes dust from the sensor with each power on.
Large bright LCD
Reviewing your work is a delight with the super bright 2.5" 230k pixel display - nearly twice the size of the EOS 350D. Photos feel crisper, richer and more saturated, while a 160° viewing angle makes for easy at-a-glance checking and sharing.
Faster, longer
Shoot at 3 fps for continuous bursts of up to 27 large JPEG images (10 RAW): like shooting a whole roll of film in a single burst.
Picture Style
Switching between Picture Style presets is like being able to change film mid-roll to achieve different colour response and Black & White effects. Sharpness, contrast, colour tone and saturation are individually adjustable.
High precision 9-point wide-area AF
Select from one of nine fixed focusing points across the scene for fast, accurate focusing - even with off-centre subjects and 'rule-of-thirds' compositions.
DIGIC II
This tiny super-computer renders colours with precision, accuracy and speed. Fast and power efficient, DIGIC II also delivers instant 0.2 second start up time.
Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software
Included in the box, DPP provides high-speed RAW image processing.
Lightweight and compact
Protecting the camera is a tough, durable casing that also keeps weight down to just 510 grams.
EF lenses and accessories
The EOS 400D is compatible with all of the more than 60 EF and EF-S lenses and all EX Series Speedlite flash units. E-TTL II passes data such as focal length and distance information from compatible EF lenses to the Speedlites for consistently accurate flash exposures.
Connectivity
Video Out allows TV screen review. Fast data transfer comes standard with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed.
EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Features
- Exceptional zoom range for all EF-S mount bodies.
- Superb image quality.
- Lightweight and compact.
- Image Stabilizer - up to 3 stops compensation.
- Fast near-silent USM AF.
- Super Spectra coatings.
- Circular aperture.
- Optional exclusive lens hood.
One lens. Many opportunities.
The EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM provides an effective focal length range of approximately 27-136mm in 35mm format. This provides plenty of framing options, making it the perfect all-purpose lens that allows you to express your creativity in a vast range of shooting situations.
Light and fast
The small size and low weight of the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM make it ideal for fast moving photography and travel, where it is not practical to carry around a heavy bag of kit. Its ring-type USM works in concert with EF-S mount EOS cameras to provide super-fast, precision auto focusing and predictive tracking - with full manual override available at any time.
Go steady
Image Stabilizer technology compensates for a full three stops, giving the lens an effective maximum aperture of f1.4-2.0; excellent for hand-held and low light photography.
Designed for digital
Designed specifically for digital photography, the lens has specially shaped lens elements and Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and flare, which can be caused by reflections off digital camera sensors. An exclusive optional lens hood can further reduce the incidence of flare.
Background blur
A circular aperture provides a pleasing background blur when shooting with a wide aperture; ideal for creating a sense of depth and getting your subject or model to stand out from the background.
EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM
A new agility and creativity in telephoto zoom lenses. The world's first camera zoom lens with a DO element: A triumph of precision optics delivers compact size, low weight and ultimate image quality.
The DO factor
The EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM is the world's only zoom lens to incorporate a DO element. Introduction of a new triple-layered DO element not only makes the lens more nimble, it delivers unrivalled imaging performance. The DO element is combined with normal refraction elements to compensate for colour aberration. This achieves levels of colour aberration correction that could previously only be achieved with the use of fluorite elements or Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) lenses. The result: superb image quality in an exceptionally small package.
Image Stabilizer
Canon's renowned Image Stabilizer (IS) technology compensates for approximately three stops without perceptible increase in image blur. This increases vastly the range of circumstances in which hand-held photography is possible, limiting the need to carry a tripod. Major movement in a particular direction is automatically detected as conscious.
